Tom Racine’s latest Tall Tale Radio podcast episode is now available. Head over to Tall Tale Radio and give it a listen. In this episode:
Christmas Time is upon us, and people open their wallets to feed multi-million dollar companies, buy mass-produced pieces of plastic for their kids, and generally, spend a ton of money on all sorts of impersonal crap. Well…it’s time to think outside that box, people! If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, you are surrounded by amazing and talented artists who are out there trying to make a living, and who could use your help.
When you buy from an artist directly, you don’t see your money split 20 ways between distributors, manufacturers, and giant corporations that just end up making a few billionaires a little richer; you are literally helping them put food on their tables and keep a roof over their heads. And best of all, you’ll be getting an entirely unique, beautiful and personal gift for someone, or yourself. Hand-crafted, made to order, and personal. How often do you get to say that about something you buy?
So, if you’re into Doctor Who, Star Wars, comic books, zombies, Harry Potter, monsters, fairy tales, comic strips, or anything fun; or if you want a drawing of your kids, your family, your dog; or how about a totally unique and fun avatar for you or a friend to put up on Facebook or Twitter; then take a look at the sites of the artists I’ve listed below. They all have their own style, so you can find something you really like. All are available for commissions, and have pre-made posters, prints, and books to buy. They will all gladly work with you on whatever scale you want to have this art done for you. Sketchcard? 8×10 black and white? Full color poster? Pin-up print? Just write them and ask! Also, I know a ton of artists, so if you have a specific question about who might be best suited for a specific project or genre, just let me know!
Remember, these things take time, so get your orders in soon. And most of all…please spread the word. Remember that $50-100 means virtually nothing to Wal-Mart or Target, but it can mean so much more to an independent artist you help support!
