Before Walt Kelly created the famous and influential “Pogo” he worked for Dell publishing which created comic books based on licensed properties. Fanatagraphic books has released a collection of “Our Gang” – a 59 issue run comic book in which Walt wrote nearly 100 story-lines.
This Sunday, Jules Feiffer, the Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist from the Village Voice, will be at the Dahesh Museum of Art in New York City to sign his book “A Room with a Zoo.” The book signing runs from 1:30 to 2:30.
From Lynn Johnston’s web site comes news that she and several other cartoonist will be attending a book signing at the Borders bookstore in Chicago the weekend of the Reuben awards. The other artists include: Lynn Johnston (For Better or For Worse), Dan Piraro (Bizarro), Bill Amend (Foxtrot), Rick Kirkman (Baby Blues), Darrin Bell (Candorville and Rudy Park), Jef Mallett (Frazz), Paul Gilligan (Pooch Cafe), Greg Evans (Luann), Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey) and Mark Pett (Lucky Cow).
Jim Borgman and Jerry Scott will be at Borders bookstore in West Village (near Dallas TX) to sign boosk between 7-8pm tomorrow night, according to Jim’s blog.They will also be appearing on a local morning TV show, talking with Dallas Morning News reporter Mike Peters.
The Austin American Statesman has a really good write up regarding Patrick McDonnell’s new book “Art.” Patrick’s first book “The Gift of Nothing” featured characters from his comic strip “Mutts,” but this new book is a complete departure from his Mutts strip.”‘Art’ is about a little kid who likes to draw and makes messes and I think it’s pretty autobiographical,” he says by phone from his New Jersey studio…. I actually took a photograph of my desk before I cleaned it because it looked sort of like one of Art’s drawings ? splotches all over the place.”To help promote the book, Patrick is having a ART Coloring Contest (ends April 28).
