Profiled: Berkeley Breathed, his ‘toons, books, movies

The Ventura County Star has interviewed Berkeley Breathed about his career in comics, children’s books and movies.

The film uses motion capture. How cool does that look in “Mars Needs Moms” and are you happy with the film overall?

The film is beautiful ? as they say, they put the money on the screen. More important to me was whether my book ? the core story and theme and characters ? survived its journey into Hollywood filmmaking. All I will say is that I found myself blubbering at the scene ? my own scene, embarrassingly ? in the movie that mirrored elegantly the same beat in the book. There is much that is different with the movie … as almost needs to happen for a film treatment of a book story, but that moment survived sublimely intact.
