The intro to the video says “only 40 editorial cartoonists work in the United States.” That number can’t be correct. Surely there are more than 40 in the U.S.

It depends on how you define working editorial cartoonists. It’s probably a pretty accurate number for full-time staff cartoonist, but when you include freelancers and syndicated only cartoonists it’s much bigger.

That means there’s a lot of room to hire so many more, right? Right? RIGHT?

Or you can put it this way…..there are twenty states in America that do not have a staff newspaper editorial cartoonist.
AND
There is a growing number of states that only have one.
Which…
guarantees a lot less local cartoons….and a lot less readers.
Print
daily newspapers are the Mitt Romneys of the media world.
