Several web sites are reporting that Hardin “Jack” Burnley, died last Tuesday on December 19 at the age of 95. Jack was best known for his contribution to Superman, Batman and other comic book heroes. According to E&P, Jack “did sports cartoons in the 1930s, and later drew the “Batman” comic strip and newspaper illustrations.”
Slightly off-topic obit announcement, but who can argue that Joseph Barbera hasn’t influenced us at some level, at some point in our lives. Along with William Hanna, Joseph and William created the Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons, and Tom and Jerry. Joseph passed away at the age of 95.
Bill King, the editorial cartoonist for the Asbury Park Press has died at age 84.
Last Friday, Hilda Terry, the creator of Teena that ran in papers between 1941 and 1964 has passed away at at 92. Hilda had an interesting and full life. This story out of the New York Sun sums up much of what she accomplished. She was in many ways a trailblazing cartoonists – accomplishing many firsts.
