Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau has stepped into the debate on voter ID laws – specifically the debate in Maine to repeal election day voter registration. The strip that ran last Friday depicts Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster as Jimmy Crow who states that the reason to repeal election day registration is to prevent Democrats […]

Last week I mentioned that the Penny Arcade gentlemen, Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, launched a Kickstarter project to raise $1 million to replace all advertising on their website. In four days, they raised over $250,000. At various milestones of fundraising, the duo will be “unlocking” certain features are opened. One of which is a […]

Today’s Broom Hilda is another example of ill-timed cartoon in light of the Aurora Colorado shootings. Francesco Marciuliano, writer for Sally Forth, issued an apology for Sunday’s Sally Forth strip that had a far looser connection to the events in Aurora. It kind of raises the question – at what point after a tragedy can […]
Remember the Seinfeld episode wherein Elaine complains about how non-understandable New Yorker cartoons are and she sets out to “crack the code” using the J Peterman catalog as an excuse to talk to The New Yorker editor “Elinoff”?This week, 14 years after that episode ran, The New Yorker is using Elaine’s cartoon (see last video […]
A few notable mentions as the comic community reacts to the shootings in Aurora CO. The Globe and Mail removed last Friday’s editorial cartoon because it contained a reference to the Batman movie. No information was given about the cartoon, so I’m not sure what exactly it was depicting, but because it was most likely […]
The Plain Dealer is reporting that a New York man, Roger Rautio, is hoping to build a Comic Book Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. Aside from a logo, trademark and a handful of comics, it appears the vision is still very much a hope than on a track to reality. Also, he notes, comic books […]
Randall Munroe’s XKCD is a nerd’s webcomic. Randall answering hypothetical questions about physics is taking nerdom to the highest levels – with comics. Something tells me Randall wasn’t the cartoonist that sat at the back of the glass drawing to impress the girls. Here’s the first three questions (and snippet of an answer):What would happen if […]

I recieved a note from Thaine H. Allison, Jr., an actor in a new movie Barmy. If ever there was someone who should play Lee Salem in a movie it would be Thaine, but I digress. If you’re in the Hollywood area on Sunday August 5th, make plans to see the premiere screening of Barmy […]
