Atlanta-based digital executive Chris Waldron joins Andrews McMeel Universal (AMU) as Chief Digital Officer beginning May 22, announced Chief Executive Officer Andy Sareyan. Waldron joins AMU after almost 20 years at Cartoon Network, where he worked his way from web developer to General Manager and Vice President of Games and Digital Products. He will lead AMU’s Digital Products and Information Technology departments.

Andrews McMeel Universal has nabbed an executive from Cartoon Network who worked at the Atlanta-based company for nearly 20 years.

Chris Waldron, who most recently was vice president of games and digital products, wasn’t on the hunt for another job. But a recruiter contacted him about the opportunity to be chief digital officer at Kansas City-based Andrews McMeel, and he decided to at least listen.

Waldron had never been to Kansas City, but he loved comics, which Andrews McMeel syndicates.

“Even though I’ve worked in animation and games, comics are my first love,” the Atlanta native said, naming some of his favorites such as “Garfield” and “Calvin and Hobbes.” “They have an incredible stable of properties that they represent.”
