Daily Cartoonist looking for volunteer ‘blogsitters’

Next week I’ll be taking a much anticipated vacation as my wife and I celebrate our 10 year anniversary. I’m completely okay with leaving the kids behind for 10 days, but leaving the blog unattended is putting a twist my knickers. I’ve asked Aaron Taylor to help things going, but not wanting to place too much burden on him, I’m opening the door to others who would like to take a turn behind the reporters desk of the Daily Cartoonist. Gil Thorp cartoon features likeness of devoted fan

Earlier this week, I told you that a Baldo creators Carlos Castellanos and Hector Cantu inserted the likeness of one of their fans into their feature as part of a fund raising effort.  In a very familiar story out of the Toledo Blade – Neal Rubin, a Detroit News columnist who writes Gil Thorp, was contacted by an individual asking him to use the likeness of an area high school coach Chris Hardman.

WP Writers Group syndicates Lisa Benson’s editorial cartoons (UPDATED)

Washington Post Writers Group has added Lisa Benson  to their portfolio of editorial cartoonists.  Lisa, according to E&P, is a freelance artist and graphic designer from Victorville, CA and has drawn local cartoons for the Daily Press since 1992. In an effort to find more information on her, a google search brought up this article from the Daily Press from 2005.

Daryl Cagle to speak at Wabash College

MSNBC editorial cartoonist  Daryl Cagle will be lecturing at Wabash College (men’s college in Crawfordsville, IN) where he will give a speech entitled “Being an Editorial Cartoonist: Everyone Wants to Kill Me and You May Too!” on September 28th. Daryl is also scheduled to speak visit the poli-sci department and meet with the school’s editorial cartoonist.
