Arizona Republic editorial cartoonist Steve Benson has been awarded the Scripps Howard Foundation’s National Journalism Award for editorial cartooning. Steve takes home a hefty $10,000 and a trophy. This week’s Toon-op was done by Jim Morin who won this year’s Herblock Prize. Jim’s selection of cartoons for the LA Times came from his own portfolio and included his commentary on the impact of Herblock on his own cartooning. Joel Pett, who usually does the feature, is off this week.

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists has added an online form to raise money to meet a matching grant program that would give the organization $15,000 to be used for their “Cartoons for the Classroom program.” With only three months to go, the AAEC has raised $4,000.
