CBS Pays Out $2.5 Million for Peanuts Song Played on Colbert’s Final Show

The night after Lee Mendelson Film Productions had sued a variety of companies for using Peanut’s songs without permission, Stephen Colbert talked about the news story while the house band played a “Linus and Lucy” behind him. Colbert then joked, “Oh no, I hope this doesn’t cost CBS any money!” It did.

Billboard reports that CBS and Lee Mendelson Film Productions “has signed a licensing deal to avoid any legal issues from the incident” a the tune of $2.5 million. The film production company says they are donating the money to World Central Kitchen.
