Friday Funnies

A few things that stood out this week.

Scott Ketcham‘s wildly off-model Dennis the Menace and Joey didn’t bring about the amount of comments I thought it would. Though it sticks out like a sore thumb I am not bothered by it. For those who are there’s another Scott Ketcham panel coming next week. Will we see weekly appearances?

But there was something else I noticed…

Dennis the Menace by Scott Ketcham – April 29, 2026
Dennis the Menace by Marcus Hamilton – April 30, 2026
Dennis the Menace by Ron Ferdinand – May 1, 2026

The letters were also out of the ordinary. Ketcham’s was poles apart from the usual, but it made me take a closer look at Marcus Hamilton’s and Ron Ferdinand’s which are also different. A difference I never took note of before. I just naturally assumed that the studio had a letterer to make it all standard but apparently the artists do their own lettering. Check out the A’s the S’s, the placement of the O’s, etc. And Ron balances out the lines where Marcus doesn’t.

Also out of the ordinary:

Steve Martin continues contributing gags to the Bliss panel – 3 in January, 1 in February, 3 in March and 1 on April 4 for eight. He has matched that in the last two weeks, today was his eighth gag since April 16,

Have I not been paying attention? I knew Rosa of Rosebuds was powerful, but not she was SUPER powerful.

Reply All by Donna A. Lewis – April 25, 2026

So Reply All by Donna A. Lewis has not updated this week at Arcamax or at the GoComics digital newspapers platform since Sunday April 26, 2026. Cartoonist Donna A. Lewis responded to The Daily Cartoonist inquiries about the comic strip’s no show and she told us that “I had technical problems submitting my Arcamax cartoons. I need to nudge the Tribune person to nudge Andrew’s McMeel.” So the strip has not ended. Meanwhile Reply All Lite (or here) has continued without interruption.

She also mentioned that her Tribune editor has retired. I need to find out more about that.

Awww. Sweet. I like it.

In sync.

and

At least the Mary story ended before the Mark story began.

Hmm, wonder if Jules was asked to put it on hold for a while?
