Sunday Stripping on a Monday Morning
Skip to commentsBefore this week gets going we take a late look at last week.
In an amazing instance of synchronicity a day or two after Obama’s Cheesecake Factory/ White House comment the Zippy the Pinhead comic strip makes the same comparison substituting Tad’s Steakhouse for the Cheescake Factory. Is Bill Griffith part of Obama’s speech writing team?
Jonathan Lemon takes another swipe at zombie strips but I’m curious about the the “Sour Grapes” title. Sour Grapes is a new to GoComics strip that appears three times a week, but only the Friday installment is new making it a sort of mutant like Rubes and Non Sequitur.
Title Panels
Dee Parson got one of the world’s best selling cartoonists to drawing the Rosebuds title panel Sunday! According to Parson’s Facebook page the panel is colored by Jose Garibaldi.
While Tom Batiuk and Dan Davis, appropriately on the Day of the Dead weekend, raised Bert Christman from the grave to draw the Crankshaft title panel (actually lifted from Adventure Comics #40, July 1939).
Though the quote used in Crankshaft seems to come from the later Joe Simon-Jack Kirby spandex-clad superhero version.
As mentioned elsewhere Gray Morrow’s tenure as artist of the Tarzan comic strip drew to a close and Eric Battle took on task with a considerable change in art and the coloring.
That was a nice Halloween strip for Gil Thorp and I have to believe Henry Barajas purposely led us to remember the early strips from him when he introduced Beth into the continuity 4 years ago:

“Welcome to Sunny with a Chance of Heat, our newest comic on Comics Kingdom! The strip welcomes us into a mobile home park where sibling life and pet trouble share space with escaped robots and aliens. If you like getting attached to a whole neighborhood of oddballs, there’s plenty here to get curious about.”
Alex Garcia at the Comics Kingdom blog introduces the new Sunny with a Chance of Heat comic strip.
