Australian Senator Lidia Thorpe is being criticized for a minute long tirade at King Charles who was seated after speaking at a welcome reception during his tour of Australia. Thorpe also shared a cartoon of a beheaded King Charles that quoted her “you are not our king” rant. She later deleted the post and blamed a staffer for sharing it.
Her statement from The Economic Times:
“Earlier tonight, without my knowledge, one of my staff shared an image to my Instagram stories created by another account, I deleted it as soon as I saw. I would not intentionally share anything that could be seen to encourage violence against anyone. That’s not what I’m about.”
The cartoon was created by artist, writer and book illustrator Matt Chan. Chan is also co-editor of an anti-imperialist publication The Sunday Paper.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has suggested Thorpe should resign for her behavior.
