Will We Finally Get Peter Jackson’s Tintin Movie Sequel?

Fifteen years since Steven Spielberg‘s “The Adventures of Tintin,” Peter Jackson has confirmed that we may finally get his promised sequel. During a Q&A at Cannes, he told the audience he’s “currently writing the script and plans to direct the movie himself.”

From the Q&A session:

“The deal was that Steven directs one and I direct another. Steven did his film, then for 15 years [later] I haven’t made mine. I feel very awkward about that.”

Fans, however, may want to temper their excitement. This is not the first time Jackson has promised or indicated the sequel is in the works. According to Yahoo Entertainment, the Jackson sequel was originally planned for late-2014 or mid-2015 but never was made. In 2018 Spielberg insisted “Peter will stick to it. Tintin is not dead!” Finally in 2024 Andy Serkis, who frequently works with Jackson, said “Peter Jackson is definitely still working on [the ‘Tintin’ sequel].”

No timeline has been announced for the sequel Jackson has said he’s writing.

  1. The Spielberg movie was good and a sequel would be awesome, but I wish they’d do something about the character design — the combination of cartoonish design with realistic skin and hair texture was a bit too uncanny. If it were up to me I would’ve done either 1) 2D animation 2) 3D animation in that smoother Pixar style or 3) live action with actors that look the part with just makeup (no motion capture).

  2. the Tintin movie… sigh…not a favorite.

Just re-run the Nelvana animated series, far superior.
