Video: Steve Breen discusses his BP Oil cartoons

Perhaps no other cartoon since Mike Luckovich’s “WHY?” cartoon has an editorial cartoon received so much press (Delona’s chimp cartoon is perhaps the only exception). The San Diego Union-Tribute has posted a video of Steve Breen discussing his BP oil spill cartoons using actual oil from the spill. Here it is:Hat tip to Rob Tornoe.

There are few details regarding this story, so I’m not sure what to make of it other than if true, a Yemen editorial cartoonist has been “forcible disappeared.” The Armies of Liberation website reports that Security authorities arrested cartoonist Kamal Sharef and confiscated his personal belongings including a laptop computer. Others arrested included his brother […]

CSotD: A rare doubleheader

Obviously, the name of the blog suggests only featuring one strip per day, but I thought it noteworthy that two cartoonists — Lalo Alcaraz and Darrin Bell — chose to salute the retiring Cathy on the same day. And a pretty good unintentional segue between them, don’t you think? Cathy Guisewhite’s decision to retire is […]

Mankoff responds to New Yorker/Kanye tweet mashup

Cartooning “tweets” has been a rage of late. I’ve reported that Paul Sabourin started pairing New Yorker cartoons with Kanye West’s tweets and yesterday I posted news that Tina’s Groove creator Rina Piccolo was drawing original sketches of other people’s tweets. And with that post, I learned that BECK has been doing this for a […]

CSotD: The difference between a rut and a groove

This site is dedicated to presenting the best comic strip of the day, or at least one that made me laugh, which sets it aside from all the bitchy little websites that post comics they don’t like and make snarky comments about them.Which means that, when I come across a hackneyed cartoon about those kids […]
