CSotD: I’d find it just as compelling

It’s hard for print comics to match the timeliness of web features like The New Adventures of Queen Victoria, and it’s hard to anyone to match Pab Sungenis’s gift for snarky insight.I have been following the inescapable story of LeBron James and the Decision That Would Rock the World, and thinking that there are a […]

The Jeff Kinney and Lincoln Peirce connection

Michael Cavna writes about the history between Diary of a Whimpy Kid creator Jeff Kinney and Big Nate creator Lincoln Peirce. It was the early ’90s, and Kinney was an aspiring cartoonist at the University of Maryland, as well as a big fan of the comic strip “Big Nate,” which he read in The Post. […]

Webcomics auction for the gulf coast has begun

Back in June I reported that several webcomic creators were planning on auctioning off original art to raise money for Gulf of Mexico clean up and restoration efforts. The auction for those originals is now underway. As of this posting, the most sought after original is from Kate Beaton’s Hark! a Vagrant. Auction ends July […]

CSotD: To Boldly Go Where No Kid Has Gone Before

There are several strips doing “odd summer camp” arcs this week, but Cul de Sac is featuring something that not only could exist but does, if not quite in this format.  And, as always, Richard Thompson elevates things with a bit of social satire beyond the obvious, and a reaction shot to remind us that, […]

San Diego Comic-con sans San Diego?

Heidi MacDonald has a great write-up regarding the potential loss to San Diego if Comic-Con International moves the largest comic-con in the US because it’s outgrown the convention center and hotel availability. Other cities vying for the convention include Los Angeles and Anaheim. With its contract with the San Diego Convention Center running out in […]

Tyler Perry unhappy with Boondocks parody

The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder has created another tempest in a teapot after the June 20th episode ran making fun of Tyler Perry. A reportedly infuriated Perry retaliated behind the scenes. Rumors began circulating days after the installment aired June 20 that an enraged Perry fired members of his staff due to possible leaks. Last […]

CSotD: Maybe if you add a “T” to the 3rd Symphony …

The idea of an intellectual roofer is well within the framework of Frazz, which is, after all, about an intellectual janitor, though I think pounding nails* to Beethoven seems a bit unlikely. Gilbert & Sullivan, more likely, but only complete recordings with all the dialogue, not those cheesy “highlight” recordings.Given the current weather on the […]

Google honors Rube Goldberg on 4th of July

Google payed tribute to Rube Goldberg on July 4 on its homepage. Goldberg is famous for creating highly complex machines to perform simple things. It was in that spirit that Google’s logo depicted as a items interacting to raise the American flag. Goldberg is a founding member of The National Cartoonists Society and it is […]

Jerry Scott

Cartoonist’s Cartoonists: Jerry Scott

Lightening doesn’t often strike twice in the comics world. Jerry Scott is the co-creator of two of the most widely syndicated comic strips on the market right now – Baby Blues and Zits. Jerry’s cut his teeth in syndication back in 1983 when he took over Ernie Bushmiller’s Nancy comic strip which he did for for 12 years eventually handing it over to Guy Gilchirst in 1995.

CSotD: The Big Parade

One of the great joys of my relentless efforts to avoid cities is holiday parades in which everyone gets to be in the parade or on the sidewalk, more or less by choice. I’ve been a Cub Scout walking down Route 3 in Star Lake, NY, with my parents and probably 100 other people at […]
