CSotD: Microeconomics for (the friends and family of) the working artist

Candor

In today's Candorville, Darrin Bell explains the interface of economics and art for the benefit of those who love and care for a working artist, writer, etc.

The explanation is this: Be glad we're not running around cutting off our own ears.*

*(There is a book out that claims Van Gogh didn't cut off his own ear to impress a woman, that, in the course of a quarrel, his friend Gauguin attacked him with a sword and cut it off. In the morning, they concocted the now-famous story so that Gauguin would not face criminal charges. Be glad we're not doing that, either.)
