Washington Post editorial cartoonist Tom Toles has an exhibit of his work starting tomorrow at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY. The exhibit runs through March 25. Charles Boyce, creator of Compu-toon, will have a two month exhibit of his comic panel at the Barrington Area Arts Council Gallery in Barrington, IL. The exhibit begins January 8th and runs through February 28th.

This year seemed to be a big year for comic exhibits. We had two really big exhibits: the Masters of American Comics and now the Cartoon America exhibit in the Library of Congress. The Washington Post has written their review of the exhibit.
Hy Eisman, the current cartoonist behind Popeye and the Katzenjammer Kids will be conducting a workshop at the Newark Museum this Saturday. The Masters of American Comics is currently on display at the Newark Museum, so I suspect the two events are connected. Pre-registration is required.

I’ve mentioned the traveling Dr. Seuss exhibit before and now the exhibit has landed in Naperville (IL). The exhibit features his original and replicated artwork from his early days as an editorial cartoonist in the 1920s. The exhibit runs through November 13. Miami Herald Pulitzer Prize editorial cartoonist Jim Morin has a new exhibit called The Incomparable Jim Morin which features his paintings. The exhibit opens this Sunday with an opening reception and then runs through December 3rd at the Alper Jewish Community Center.Â
The National Press Club’s Cartoons and Cocktails fundraiser will be tomorrow night. The annual event raises money for the Ellen Masin Persina scholarship (help fund the first year of college study for a needy high school student), Young D.C. (training opportunities and hands-on experience with news media) and Cartoonists Rights Network (devoted to helping editorial cartoonists who face censorship, imprisonment, intimidation or death for their commentary).
