Editorial Cartooning

The Baltimore Sun Now Using Guest AI “Cartoonists”

The Baltimore Sun‘s Opinion Page is now almost exclusively printing AI generated cartoons.

As seen they have a preferred style to prompt their computer to generate an image for their editorial page, until this weekend.

For the middle cartoon above they have scraped/stolen another style which is more cartoony than their regular prompts. So I will call it a “guest AI cartoon.”

“Produced using artificial intelligence tools by The Baltimore Sun Editorial staff”

Anyway, they have yet to switch their notice from “artificial intelligence” to “super intelligence.” Yet.

As far as can be determined there was no editorial AI image or cartoon for the Oct. 11, 2026 edition. They did buy an actual editorial cartoon to accompany the fake one for Oct. 12, 2026. It was from 3 months ago and by Scott Stantis. I will link to it but will no longer reproduce a real cartoon on the same page as the AI slop. AFAIK Stantis’ was the first real cartoon they have used since Sept. 29, 2026.
