The Baltimore Sun‘s Opinion Page is now almost exclusively printing AI generated cartoons. As seen they have a preferred style to prompt their computer to generate an image for their editorial page, until this weekend. For the middle cartoon above they have scraped/stolen another style which is more cartoony than their regular prompts. So I […]
First there is a mistaken impression that many seem to have taken from The Daily Cartoonist’s (TDC) news of The Baltimore Sun using A.I. cartoons. When TDC noted the horrible practice it was specifically stated that “The Daily Cartoonist does not know if this is the first such occurrence (emphasis added) or if it has […]
President Trump’s speech last week has drawn poor reviews, which is an unusual response to presidential addresses, though in this case, the message was so clearly partisan that ABC and NBC declined to cover it except on their online news channels, and CBS and even Fox cut away and downplayed it when it became obvious […]
This week saw Marshall Ramsey officially take on the writing chores of the Prickly City comic strip. From Prickly City creator Scott Stantis: The extremely talented and very nice Marshall Ramsey, the two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, is taking over Prickly City. It has been a grand 22 years, and I know I am leaving Carmen […]
I’m getting a “shut up and hand over your wallets” vibe from this one, for a number of reasons. One is that nobody voted for this war, and, in fact, Trump was elected on a pledge to keep us out of foreign wars. Not only did the people not vote for it, but their legislators didn’t, […]
A new irregular feature: Etc., where I feature political cartoons that don’t fit into a major topic but that I found interesting or amusing. The risk is that I won’t have much to say beyond “Wow,” and posting cartoons without commentary does not qualify as “fair use.” Not that I’d be alone in doing that, […]
Granlund offers attractive art and an odd concept, which is how readily, and how quickly, we have allowed ourselves to be dragged back into another interminable, self-destructive war in the Middle East. After all, we haven’t finished killing our allies from our last glorious overseas adventure. But, of course, we didn’t get into this war in the […]
So we noticed that Scott Stantis has been missing from the Smerconish Cartoon Corps (Steve Breen, Jack Ohman, Rob Rogers, Scott Stantis) of late, his last being the day after Christmas. So we went to the source and asked about it. Scott told The Daily Cartoonist that “I am stepping away from editorial cartooning to […]

There is an expression within the Cold Water Rescue community, “They’re not dead until they’re warm and dead.” It comes from having pulled people out of icy water with no discernible signs of life, only to find that they can be revived by appropriate action as they warm up. Only when they are warm and […]
There is an old, unproven concept that, if at one of his early mass rallies someone had snuck up behind Hitler and yanked his pants down, it would have so destroyed his strong-man mystique that he never would have come to power and World War II would have been avoided. But by the time he was […]
Yesterday was VE Day except in the United States, where it was “Victory Day For World War II,” according to our president, who celebrated by posting this image of marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi, a hill just west of Berlin that was named for German composer Johann Sebastian Suribachi.Or maybe, just maybe, Dear […]
