Cristina, Carrilho Targeted by Neo-Nazi Group

The names of two Portuguese cartoonists, Andre Carrilho and Cristina Sampaio, were found on a far-right neo-Nazi group’s list of future targets. The Movimento Armilar Lusitano (Lusitanian Armillary Movement) compiled the list of who they viewed as a threat due to their alignment with “immigration, anti-racism, anti-fascism, diversity, social inclusion, and minority rights.”
Nine members of the group were indicted last month on terrorism charges. Prosecutors believe the group were still in early stages of building their network and resources in order to carrying out their plans.

The investigation also revealed the existence of recruitment and selection processes for members, the creation of closed groups on digital platforms, the promotion of training and logistical preparation, and the acquisition and manufacture of weapons and components through 3D printing.
MAL thus produced, in 3D, weapons and weapon parts, including so-called “ghost weapons” and mortar grenades, drone grenades, incendiary grenades, as well as other instruments intended to reinforce the group’s arsenal.
Within the scope of the defendants’ activities in MAL, they identified individuals and entities that they classified as “targets” and viewed as a “threat” to the country, collecting information, which they cataloged, about holders of political office, parties, civic movements, journalists, commentators, academics, artists, activists, and organizations associated with causes such as immigration, anti-racism, anti-fascism, diversity, social inclusion, and minority rights.
