The Comics Studies Society (CSS) is an interdisciplinary society open to all who share the goals of promoting the critical study of comics, improving comics teaching, and engaging in open and ongoing conversations about the comics world.
CSS defines comics studies liberally to include the study and critical analysis of comics strips; comic books, papers, and magazines; albums, graphic novels, and other graphic books; webcomics and other electronic formats; single-panel cartoons, including editorial and gag cartoons; caricature; animation; and other related forms and traditions. All types of sequential art, graphic narrative, and cartooning are relevant to our mission.
Guy Billout ф Quiet Catastrophes

The Philippe Labaune Gallery is currently presenting Guy Billout‘s Quiet Catastrophes exhibit.
The exhibition brings together original drawings and editorial works spanning Billout’s career, including a significant selection from his remarkably longstanding collaboration with The Atlantic Monthly. This collection highlights Billout’s decades- long influence on American and European editorial illustration, while simultaneously showcasing his craftmanship: the ability to use precise geometry, flat gradients, and the ligne claire (clear line) style to create a universe where disaster doesn’t strike with a bang, but with a perfectly rendered, humorous and ironic silence.

American Library Association Conference 2026

The 2026 American Library Association Conference & Exhibition is taking place at the end of this month. I have it on good authority that George Gant will be there representing the National Cartoonists Society.
