Comic Strips

“There’s Always The Comics”

To paraphrase Liniers, “The Comics keep on truckin’.”

Yes, Liniers gives a hat tip to R. Crumb in the bottom left corner.

No hat tip, and no reason for one, in today’s Zippy.

But that opening line instantly instantly brought to mind Donovan’s Season of the Witch opening words: “When I look out my window…”

Whereas Mark Tatulli might have added some insight into the appearance of Jeremy Hillary Boob in Liō for the youngsters out there.

Another remembrance of the past was Georgia Dunn bringing back some of her cards of her Tarot deck from a few years ago. I can only hope that it is a prelude to more of Breaking Cat News Tarot cards.

Still more background as it seems the birth and life of Ming the Merciless has biblical implications.

Blasphemously today’s Sunday’s page does not contain first person perspective but third person narrative. If not the first time certainly a rarity among Flash Gordon Sunday chronicling of Schkade.

Mutts has had three two new Sunday pages this year: one in February, one in March, now one for April.

Barney Google showing up on a Sunday heralds a week of the character in the forthcoming dailies.

Thatababy’s Mulligan Stew recipe throws together 15 comic strip ingredients with 6 comic strip instructions resulting a comic strip outcome. I count over three dozen comic characters.

Not quite juxtaposition:

Not the same day and not really the same gag but close enough to be kissing cousins in my book.

By the way, it took GoComics a few weeks to change the credit from Kieran to Ripley’s, but after years now the credit for Shoe at GoComics still reads Gary Brookins. Comics Kingdom is no better.

The ability of $upr Dee to bring love to the comics page makes it a favorite. Today was wonderful!

Hat tip to Dustin for this post’s feature image and title.

  1. All the panels in the Sunday Lockhorns today are related. Has that happened before?

    1. Yes, it’s particularly common for all the Sunday Lockhorns panels to link if they’re doing an event such as a vacation or going to an event. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole week weren’t vacation strips too.

  2. There were no new March Mutts Sundays. They just reprinted the 2/26/06 strip that for some reason had an unchained Sparky

    1. Thank you, corrected here and in my 2026 notebook.
