Matt loved dirt bikes, outdoor sports, animals, decal stickers, and his partner, Remi Deraedt.

Whiskey Chronicles by Matt Scharf, Steamboat Pilot

Matt was an editorial and otherwise cartoonist for The Steamboat Pilot.

From 2012 to 2023 Matt was art director and eventual publisher of the Valley Voice alternative paper.

Tom Ross for The Steamboat Pilot profiled Matt 15 years ago.

Steamboat graphic designer Matt Scharf has a brand-new pair of custom skis that have never shredded the gnar but already have multiple stories to share. That’s because the top skin of Scharf’s new skis by Gnar Inc., of Steamboat, are festooned with layers of drawings from some of his best political cartoons. Many of them were published during a seven-year tenure with the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

Professionally, Scharf is a graphic designer. Drawing political cartoons is something he’s been doing since grammar school. He has designed logos for many companies and created displays for food carts and restaurant facades at Major League Baseball parks including Coors Field in Denver and Jacobs Field in Cleveland.
