Sergio “Serguei” Goizauskas – RIP

French cartoonist Sergio Goizauskas better known as Serguei passed away on January 8 at the age of 69. Born in Argentina. He had a 45 year run at Le Monde where he was described as “not a political or current cartoonist, but rather a poet capable of drawing.”

From Lucas Delattre at Le Monde (translated via Google)

His constant joy in creating – “I’m having a blast, I’m having fun,” he would often say, with a hearty laugh – he put to the service of a critique of what he called a “world adrift, marked by the discreet agony of all elegance,” a world permeated, as he wrote in an unpublished text, by “the law of death, the law of comfort,” and populated by “crooks gliding over the gaping wounds of true justice.”

The last Serguei cartoon on Le Monde’s website (below) is dated November, 25, 2020, though I cannot confirm it was his last published cartoon. If anyone knows more about his cartooning after 2020, please let me know.
