Keith Edward Brown

March 19, 1963 – December 10, 2025

The family has notified friends and fans through social media that Keith Brown has passed:

It breaks my heart to have to post this today. But my loving and wonderful husband Keith has passed.

Keith’s career as a cartoonist took a turn when he became the editorial cartoonist for the weekly Sedalia Democrat in 2010, until then cartooning had just been a hobby. At that time he got serious about the possibilities. He cartooned for The Democrat, in the heart of Tea Party country, well into 2011.

During that time he began experimenting with ideas for comic strips and panels. In 2011 the though of a comic strip about the devil and his assistant took shape. By 2012 The Wages of Sin became his focus.

From an2012 interview with David Hurley:

David:  How did the idea for your comic come about?

Keith: I’m not really sure but I just seemed like it was the one thing nobody was doing as far as I could tell. Now I know why…lol.  Unfortunately in the eyes of the syndicate the one thing that makes it unique also seems to be working against me. Ahh…the cartoonists lament.

It didn’t take long for social and political topics to begin appearing in the strip.

In an early 2019 interview with Mr. Media Keith said he gave up the strip (temporarily) because during the Trump years politics became the center of attention and he felt it was becoming a one trick pony. After a short break he returned to The Wages of Sin (and politics).

But politics had become part of Keith’s life so even other ideas gravitated back to that world.
