The Prince Valiant Sunday Page Montage Sources

The art of today’s October 26, 2025 Sunday Prince Valiant page is credited to “Foster Murphy Yeates.” That’s Hal Foster, J. C. Murphy, and Thomas Yeates – all the signatures in the artists’ own styles by the way.

As Aleta spins her tale of the past, Yeates has reached into the past for the illustrations.

For the wedding panel of Val and Aleta Yeates reaches back to a 1946 page by Hal Foster:

Prince Valiant by Hal Foster – February 10, 1946*

Then Yeates (and Schultz) jump up to the heart of the Justinian deviltry as shown in 1981.

Prince Valiant by Cullen and John Cullen Murphy – September 20, 1981*

Prince Valiant by Cullen and John Cullen Murphy – September 27, 1981*

Prince Valiant by Cullen and John Cullen Murphy – October 18, 1981*

* Subract a day for Canadian and U.S. newspapers that published their Sunday comics on Saturdays.

The Justinian story by the father and son Murphy team can be read in Fantagraphics Prince Valiant books or as part of the Comics Kingdom’s Vintage Prince Valiant.

  1. No love for Gary Gianni’s wonderful work on the prince?

    1. I don’t know (remember) that Justinian was part of the Schultz-Gianni Prince Val era.

      1. Sorry, I didn’t realize the discussion was only about a Justinian thread.

  2. Must be using the Jeff Keane recycles Bil Keane for Family Circus art thing, huh?

    1. It’s a flashback to bring us up to date.

  3. This is wonderful. Love today’s strip, but oof— “Emeror”?
