Walking the (Antisemitic) Dog

SACRAMENTO — California Governor Gavin Newsom is facing a wave of criticism after the official press account for the governor posted an AI-generated cartoon showing White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller leading former President Donald Trump on a leash.

International Jewish News reports:

Conservative commentators and several Republican officials said the cartoon trafficked in antisemitic stereotypes by exaggerating Miller’s facial features, a claim echoed widely on social media and in right-leaning outlets. Those critics called for Newsom to apologize and, in some cases, to resign.

Stephen Miller responded to the post publicly, condemning the governor’s office and framing the episode as part of a broader pattern of what he called hostile rhetoric from Democratic officials…

That’s right, Stephen Miller is denouncing hostile rhetoric.

Major national Jewish organizations had not, as of press time, released coordinated statements calling for Newsom’s resignation. Reactions instead were fragmented, with many public responses coming from individual commentators and partisan outlets on both the left and the right. The episode underscores how fast social media controversies can spread and how they can quickly become litmus tests for broader questions about antisemitism, political rhetoric, and acceptable satire…

Of course it is not the first time that particular scenario has been used in an editorial cartoon.

Though more (in)famously it involves Donald Trump and Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu.

  1. Newsome should apologize for using AI to create the cartoon. Maybe AI is antisemitic.

    1. Oooo, what if AI was the Antichrist? Now THERE’s a twist nobody would see coming — humanity enslaved under a Thousand Years of Dank Memes.

  2. Given that the eight-year-olds in the administration call Newsom by insulting schoolyard names even in official announcements, they need to get over themselves.

    1. Is it too late for a sound spanking or do you think some of them would actually like it?

  3. “exaggerating Miller’s facial features”

So – what’s always done in standard cartoon caricature?

    Horrors.

The guy they call “Newscum” insulted Stephen Miller? How mean.

  4. To most Jews, Miller is an “honorary Goy.” who deserves no respect from anybody. That includes me.

Trump believes in all the antisemitic tropes, but thinks they are POSITIVE attributes, and that’s why Miller is where he is and why no Jewish organization would join in the “backlash.”

Also, you will remember that the reason the notorious cartoon of Trump walking the dog being considered antisemitic is that the Bibi caricature wore a big mogen david and Trump was wearing a Kippah, which implied he was a slave to the Jews.

BTW, the Israelis just began a unilateral cease-fire.

  5. If anything, the A.I. improved Miller’s corpse-like features. He almost looks human.

  6. I guess I’m a dumbass…I didn’t even know PeeWee German was Jewish.

  7. Yeeeeeaaaaah . . . I’m from Georgia, and unless these pearl-clutchers freaking out now called out the Repugs that made ads of Warnock and Ossoff editing actual pictures of them to exaggerate Warnock’s pigmentation and Ossoff’s nose they can go kick rocks.
