CSotD: Herblock: Don’t stop thinking about editorial cartoons
Skip to comments

While newspapers fight for audience by removing all traces of uniqueness, character and community from their pages — this past week, the Record (no longer "The Bergen Record") laid off editorial cartoonist Jimmy Margulies after 22 years — the late cartooning legend Herblock continues to support the form with an award each year from the foundation established in his will.
This year's Herblock Prize has been awarded to Dan "Tom Tomorrow" Perkins. You can read the Foundation's press release here, as well as coverage from the Daily Cartoonist, the Comics Reporter and Comic Riffs, which will not only tell you all about it and provide some quotes from Perkins and the judges along with some interesting links, but will also let you know which of the following Tom Tomorrow cartoons I snagged from one of them.
The rest are either from previous CSOTD entries or, like the June 16, 2003 cartoon above, predate the start of the blog.
Without further ado:

(March 25, 2002)

(June 3, 2002)

(July 29, 2002)

(January 14, 2003)

(February 6, 2012)

(Actually, I only featured the first one, December 27, 2012, since using both would have felt like taking too much)
And let us not forget the provider of this feast:

Thanks, Herb.
