There will be a lot of Steve Jobs obituary cartoons over the next week, but this designer has nailed it. Every once in a long while, a "weeper" cartoon works. This one works.
What I find interesting — and a bit depressing — is that I'm seeing cartoons this morning that are the same as cartoons that popped up on Facebook almost as soon as the news was announced that Jobs had died. And most of them, as with this one, were being done by random talented folks rather than professional cartoonists.
I don't mean to suggest that cartoonists were monitoring Facebook and ripping off ideas, but rather that there aren't that many good obituary cartoons out there. How many ways can you implant a silhouette of Steve Jobs into the cut-out of the Apple apple? How many variations are there of him having an app for St. Peter?
The death of a public figure is like a snow day for cartoonists.
