Baldo celebrates Hispanic Heritage with guest artists

Baldo creators Hector Cantu and Carlos Castellanos have announced that to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September), they are featuring the talent of six hispanic comic artists every Sunday starting on the 11th through October 16.

Hector says turning over their Sunday feature to other artists is a “way for us to shine a spotlight on fellow artists who are doing incredible art, and giving them a chance to have their work published in the Sunday funnies.”

The following are the artists who will be filling in:

Jose Cabrera (appearing 9/11) does the webcomic Crying Macho Man.

Isis Rodriguez (appearing 9/18) creates a comic book called Niñají.

Rhode Montijo (appearing 9/25) is the creator and illustrator of comic books Pablo’s Inferno, chapter books Melvin Beederman “Superhero” series and children’s books such as “The Halloween Kid.

Aleloop (appearing 10/2) has completed design and animation for Xbox, MTV, VH1, 7UP, Dr Pepper, Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, TNT, Cartoon Network and LOGO.

Ralph Cabrera (appearing 10/9) has completed work for First Comics, Dark Horse, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics and also does advertising work for Metlife, McDonalds, Burger King, Disney, and Telemundo.

Carlos Navarro (appearing 10/16) has a painting style has come to be known as “Pop Suave,” fusing Pop Art with traditional Cuban, Miami and other contemporary themes. Some of his clients include Perry Ellis International, Bacardi, and Ford Motors and Super Bowl XLI Host Committee.

This is the second time Carlos and Hector have turned their Sunday comic over to guest artists.
