Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Because I could not stop to speak …

2011-01-21-Any-Last-Words
Bug is a relatively new (the archives go back to October, 2009) webstrip that is suddenly generating a lot of buzz. It's simple and anarchic and thoughtful, which seems to be a trend in strips that generate buzz.

I came across it on a list of new strips being considered for some kind of Lucite plaque, but, honestly, most of what is out there isn't very good, even the stuff that gains praise and Lucite. (To be honest, I'm not sure Lucite was even involved. Maybe just praise.) I'm currently reading three of the strips on that list and am very close to deleting the other two.

But not this one. Go to his website and read the "About the Strip" section for one of the best explanations of how cartooning happens that I've ever read. Also, read the strip, because it's funny and passionate and deadpan and literate and stupid and all the things a good cartoon ought to be.

I wouldn't be surprised to see "Bug" join that list of strips I have to consciously avoid putting up here all the time.

  1. Haha! Thanks for pointing this one out. I’d never heard of it before, but it’s great! Definitely has a permanent home on my daily list. No idea what it has to do with bugs, though…

  2. Thanks – this just went on my daily read list as well. Still working my way through the archives. (I’m not sure that “relatively new” is appropriate – in the webcomic world anything that has been consistently appearing 5x/week for 15 months is flirting with “long-established”. . . .)
