Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: The chains we forge in life

Watch

I normally cringe at "absent father" motifs in comic strips because, much as the media loves the villainy of the deadbeat dad, bad parenting is an equal opportunity character flaw. But today's "Watch Your Head" does more than feature a nice twist consistent with the character of Omar, whose sardonic outlook on life goes beyond the superficial misanthrope of most strips. It also ties in with the current storyline in the weekly strip, in which Omar is, yes, about to be visited by the spirits of the season.

I don't know where Cory Thomas is going with the story, but he has broken out some pretty interesting background arcs for his characters and I'm going to assume that this is going to be a worthwhile ride.

And that, however much Omar comes around for the season, he won't actually turn into a loveable guy once it's over. I would certainly miss his painful, crabbed presence in the strip.

  1. I gotta admit this one took me completely by surprise. I didn’t see the “Dad” twist until it hit me right in the chest. Well done, Cory.
