CSotD: Shall we play a game of Global Thermostatical War?

Soup

In today's Stone Soup, Jan Eliot explores a workplace issue that the EEOC has yet to solve, as far as I know.

However, I have a potential fix. I once worked at a paper housed in two buildings that shared a parking lot. One building held the newsroom, production and business. The other held circulation and advertising. This meant that the first building was about 80 percent male and the other was about 80 percent female.

The women in accounting and the handful of female reporters kept sweaters and portable electric heaters at their desks, throughout the year. The handful of men in circulation and advertising took off their jackets the minute they hit the door, throughout the year.

There was still a lot of complaining, but it was from a small number of people and fairly evenly distributed between the sexes. I think it was pretty close to the perfect solution.

  1. But as it turns out this is *not* a men-prefer-the-climate-on-Mars, women-prefer-the-climate-on-Venus thing. Later strips reveal that the AC has been turned up to accommodate the women in accounting who are having hot flashes.
Between eco-conscious energy saving initiatives, and corporate cost reduction pressures, is overuse of the AC even an issue any more? I mean for those who still have office jobs at all?
