Dave Coverly's Speed Bump has a type of madness to it that really appeals to me. There's often just a little moment of "What?" before the laugh that fits perfectly between the gag that is too obvious to be funny and the one that requires too much analysis.

Mike Peterson has posted his "Comic Strip of the Day" column every day since 2010. His opinions are his own, but we welcome comments either agreeing or in opposition.

  2. It is! And the elephant’s little glasses just makes it funnier.

  3. The glasses certainly indicate that this is a middleaged elephant who isn’t going to shovel his own driveway. Really a brilliant touch.

  4. It’s about the Republican party, right?

  5. Normally, any cartoon about an elephant is, indeed, about the Republican Party. But note that this cartoon was published on June 16, which means it’s about repressed Irish Catholic homosexuals.

  6. The two sets are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
