CSotD: Lecturing Ludwig

Arlo & Janis often features philosophical ponderings on the transitory nature of life, but it also houses Ludwig, the most realistic cat in comicdom.
Today's strip has some relation to a Far Side in which two dogs are about to be fed and one of them is saying, "Oh boy! Dog food again!" But that paints dogs as sentient-but-stupid, while, except for a very rare fantasy sequence now and then, Ludwig is never portrayed as anything more than a cat, and the humor comes from Arlo's insistence on analyzing him as if he were more than a cat.
Which is more in the category of a classic pair of Far Side cartoons that compare what we say to our dogs, and our cats, and what they hear. In the dog panel, the owner's harangue comes out as "blah blah blah blah Ginger blah blah blah," while in the cat version, the balloon for what the cat hears is completely blank.
Which, in turn, goes back to the philosophical ponderings that are often featured in Arlo & Janis, in which Arlo unburdens his thoughts to people who, like Ludwig, rarely actually hear anything he's saying and just go on as they were before.
Well, it makes me laugh.
