Skip to commentsSports cartoonist and caricaturist Jerry Dowling has passed away.

Jeremy John (Jerry) Dowling
November 16, 1939 – March 7, 2026

Friends of cartoonist Jerry Dowling are reporting on social media that he died Saturday night. Jerry had entered hospice care in the past week. We had profiled his career, mostly with The Cincinnati Enquirer, just a few months ago and we refer you to that entry rather than repeat most of that post.
He was The Cincinnati Enquirer staff sports cartoonist and illustrator from 1967 to 1995.

After The Cincinnati Enquirer Jerry continued drawing sports and other characters, particularly country and western and Hollywood caricatures.

He also contributed to Cincinnati’s alternative City Beat where he did sports and editorial cartoons.

As reported in our earlier post Jerry created a comic strip, F. Stop Fitzgerald (1978-79) and and a sports-oriented panel Pen-Pourri (1982-84) for The Cincinnati Enquirer.
More great caricatures and art (and pictures) at the Cincinnati Illustrators Blog entries tagged Jerry Dowling and at JerryDowling.com.

Our condolences to Jerry’s family and friends.
