Thing is, the Gingrich gridlock era was, or at least was portrayed as, a stubborn difference of opinion. The current gridlock has none of those trappings of democracy. There are issues on the table, like unemployment and nuclear arms, that Gingrich's minions would have put aside their agenda to deal with in the best interests of the nation.
If nothing else, they'd vote in favor of something they had themselves proposed. This crew freezes action on anything put up by the president, even if it's one of their own recommendations. And yet, only a few short years ago, they were insisting on the right to have a "straight up or down vote" on things.
Yeah, I know: That was then. This is now.
