Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: The Promise

   Oliver
Oliver Schopf, cartoonist for the Standard of Vienna, entitles this beautiful strip "Fata Morgana," and the reflections just before the Promised Land do indeed suggest a mirage.

Which does a very nice job of setting us up with a promise and then dashing our hopes, bringing about a truly brilliant level of empathy with those optimistic, desperate pilgrims.

I'm glad I saw it, but I'm glad most editorial cartoons don't produce the same punch-in-the-gut feeling.

Mike Peterson has posted his "Comic Strip of the Day" column every day since 2010. His opinions are his own, but we welcome comments either agreeing or in opposition.
