Jules Feiffer has been honored by the School of Visual Arts on Tuesday of this week. The school held a reception and dinner in his honor to kick off a new exhibit called The Masters Series: Jules Feiffer. The exhibit contains works of art that span his 50 year career of cartoons, illustrations and water colors.
The weekly New York Press has named Ruben Bolling’s Tom the Dancing Bug Manhattan’s Best Comic Strip. The paper’s yearly “Best of Manhattan Reader Poll” was published September 27.
It’s that time of year again when the leaves turn colors and notices of deadlines for cartooning awards are being distributed throughout the community. First up is the Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Award. Deadline is in December. It has a $10k payoff to the winner.
Chad Lowe has taken first place in editorial cartooning in the 2006 Florida Press Club Excellence in Journalism contest for the 90,000+ circulation category. The awards will be presented to the winners on Oct. 21 in West Palm Beach.
