Christian Science Monitor editorial cartoonist Clay Bennett has won this year’s Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for editorial cartooning. He’ll be honored in Washington D.C. on May 23rd.

Robert Ariail, the editorial cartoonist for The State (SC), has won this year’s Green Eyeshade award for editorial cartooning. The award is a a regional (11 state) SPJ award for outstanding journalism. This is Robert’s fifth Green Eyeshade award.

Chicago Sun-Times editorial cartoonist Jack Higgins took top honors for editorial cartooning in the Herman Kogan Media Awards for a series of cartoons he did on the topic of political corruption. The prize is a $1000 scholarship in his name to a school of his choice.

Garry Trudeau, creator of Doonesbury, will be honored tomorrow at the ninth annual Ken Book Awards breakfast for his book, The War Within: One More Step at a Time. Garry receives his award for “outstanding literary contributions to a better understanding of mental illness.”

Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau is scheduled to speak at the Muhlenberg College commencement on May 20th where he will also receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.Hat tip to E&P.
