The newspapers of the Lee Enterprise group recently had a change of their comics lineup that we thought had been cleared up with them keeping the King Features strips and adding a page of Creators comics.

But now a letter to Lee’s Waco Tribune-Herald has a reader upset about the loss of the King comics (or here):

“Your changes to the comics selection are uncalled for, egregious and numb-headed. No self-respecting newspaper should ever be published without Beetle Bailey somewhere within its pages. Or Snuffy Smith. Or Blondie. You can’t substitute half a page of quality comics for a full page-plus of third- and fourth-rate slop. You’re pulling the old quantity vs. quality trick, and it’s not going to work.

“Bring back Zits, bring back Blondie, bring back Sally Forth, Beetle Bailey, Hagar the Horrible, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith. And for Pete’s sake, bring back Family Circus. Please!”

Followed by an opposing point of view:

“I love all the new comics — particularly The Wizard of Id.

“Great stuff!”

So is Lee leaving it to the individual papers to run the Creators page or the King half page or both?

Time will tell.
