The second panel of today’s Over the Hedge comic strip had me thinking it was a rerun from 10 years ago since the commonly accepted though erroneous start of the Sunday funnies is closer to 130 years ago, not 120. But the copyright reads 2026 and I find nothing to dispute that.
I do give credit to cartoonist T. Lewis for putting a Hamlin Oop on Hammy’s forehead and to writer Michael Fry for the phrase, “Online, no one can hear you laugh.”

On the other hand I was going to credit MUTTS with being new until further research found a small alteration from a previous MUTTS Sunday brings with it a 2026 copyright.
But as far as I can tell McDonnell did treat us to a new MUTTS earlier this week. My notebook tells me it was the fifth new MUTTS strip this year.

I was hoping for an extended gag sequence the would last for a few days of jamming between Stephan Pastis and Jim Davis as happened that other time Pearls Before Swine had a co-cartoonist.
While Doonesbury mentioned the president there were other comics today that brought Trump to mind.
Janis’ use of The Gulf of Mexico has the advantage of timing with the petty renaming of Lake Ontario which, like “Gulf of America,” only cultists and corporate lickspittles will use. While I don’t think a day goes by where we are not faced with the temperamental leader of our country refuting “Dady’s” reasoning.
