   With the cancellation of VeeFriends, does this mean Lee Enterprises newspapers can get a new deal with Andrews-McMeel strips and keep the King Features strip rights for its unified comics pages?

      I would be interested to know if Lee Ent. is paying Vee Inc., if Vee Inc. is paying Lee Ent., or if there are no fees being exchanged to print the comic strip on the bottom half of every Lee Sunday weather page (free content for free publicity).

      16 comic books (so far) at 24 pages/book (#16) divided by 2 equals almost four years of weekly VeeFriends to Lee papers.

         It’s hard to find the physical VeeFriends comic book at comic shops.

   D.J. Coffman here! Anyone who knows me knows I love daily and weekly comics deeply, and we’re having some exciting discussions about the future of VeeFriends here and beyond —including potentially serializing new stories there first and developing characters specifically for the format when it makes sense.

   For now, we’re sharing key stories from our growing universe. We think of the main VeeFriends comic a little like our Detective Comics—a home base for a library of 250+ characters, some of which we’re now developing into their own series and exploring more traditional publishing paths. And we’re not in a hurry.

   We’re also seeing collectors from the card world discover comics and comic shops for the first time. Search “sold items” on eBay and you will find many many things. We have a big footprint in the collectible cards space too, this is year 2 of our Topps chrome sets. Our community is also pushing us to get into comic shops, and while we’re being patient about doing it right, there ARE exciting things happening behind the scenes. Currently 3 full series are being drawn.

   And While many say “paper is dead,” we still believe strongly in analog. We love working with Lee, we still drive new people to the papers, readers continue to discover us there, and some of our hardcore collectors are even collecting the newspapers to this day, and believe me they want NEW stories there too. It’s all about discoverability for the stories and deeper messages in the brand.
