In late May Luann applied and was accepted as a Summer Camp counselor, a job she has shown quite an aptitude for in the recent strips.
A maturing Luann just may have found her niche in life.
But it is happening a year later than planned as this story was supposed to happen last Summer, but…

The camp counselor storyline running right now was born from a desire to give Luann an opportunity to find herself in a totally new environment.
We actually wrote this story to run last summer. But as the timing got closer, the flooding tragedy in Texas happened, and with so many families grieving children who’d been at camp that same week, putting Luann at a similar camp on the page just didn’t feel right. So we made a last-minute pivot — bumping up a week of Bernice at home, plugging in reruns of the gang at a comic convention, and having Luann settle for another summer at Weenie World. Looking back, we’re glad we made that call.
This year, we’re letting Luann get the job — and we’re excited for readers to meet her campers and join in on the summer fun. As we come up on the anniversary of that heartbreaking event, though, our thoughts are still with the families it affected…
