Engineer, professor, and cartoonist Dave McGill has passed away.

From the obituary:

Dave’s career was in teaching and research from 1966-99 at Georgia Tech, where Dave’s dad had worked his way through college in the 1920s. Dave retired as Professor Emeritus of Civil and Aerospace Engineering, and founder and Director Emeritus of Tech’s Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL). He was named Tech’s best teacher in 1974 and 1986, won the Institute Research (1968) and Service (1989) Awards, awarded the Carnegie Foundation Professor of the Year in Georgia in 1996 and was named an Honorary Alumnus in 1999. Dave and his five coworkers at CETL won for Tech in 1999 the Hesburgh Award, the highest national honor for faculty development.

Dave had a lifelong avocation of writing and cartooning, which included a column and editorial cartoons for The Georgia Bulletin, a comic strip “Gerry Atric” in 13 newspapers, and a puzzle “Papa’s Quiz” that was syndicated by King Features Weekly Service.

Dave’s editorial cartoons were published during the 1970s’ (I couldn’t find any samples).
