Cartoonists Drawn to Clay Jones

Peezy, the pizza rat, is editorial cartoonist Clay Jones‘ dingbat that appears in his political cartoons.

Clay is making tremendous progress on his road back from his recent stroke with physical therapy. And his many friends in the cartooning community are supporting him where they can — either by donating to the Clay Jones GoFundMe effort or by encouraging his mental therapy with wonderful drawings of Peezy.

Steve Sack

Clay has collected those pizza rat drawings into a great post showcasing a bunch of cartooning talents from editooning, comic strips, illustration, gag cartooning, and 3D sculpturing. Among them are Amanda R. El-Dweek, Amy Loch, Barber Clark, Chuck Dillon, Craig Yoe, Dan McConnell, Dave Whamond, Dawn Mockler, Debbie King, Gary Huck, George Gant, Georgia Dunn, Jeff Knureck, John Buss, John Kovaleski, Karyn Milos, Kevin Necessary, Mike Lynch, Nancy Beiman, Tony C, Quannah Santiago, Rex Kartwonz, Stacy Curtis, Steve Stegelin (our feature image), Ginny Clapp, Deb Milbrath, Keith Knight, John Kovalic, Bruce Gerlach, and Steve Sack. More are being added as they come over the transom.

The Clay Jones GoFundMe seems to have stalled around the 60% of goal mark. If possible please put a few dollars into the pot to support Clay until he has recovered enough to once again support himself or subscribe to his Claytoonz Substack. More frequent updates from Clay at his Facebook page.

  1. Clay and Peezy are fantastic! I’m loving how the cartooning world is coming together for Clay as well. I’m just a reader, not a cartoonist, but I truly appreciate great political cartooning and the power it has. Clay is among my favorites and Peezy is everyone’s favorite mascot. Clay, get well soon, keep pushing yourself in physical therapy and come back to us soon. We need you in this fight. It’s been wonderful, in the meantime, reading your blogs and knowing that your humor and wit are as strong as ever. To all the cartoonists, keep yourselves strong and healthy, we need every one of you in this fight. Never doubt or underestimate the power you have for good. You all give us hope and lend voice and image to our struggle. Some days, your cartoons are all we have to cling to, and its important. I know that the industry is changing, papers folding, tightening their belts, laying off cartoonists. Don’t give up, find new outlets online for your art, so we can still be inspired and buoyed by your artwork. Draw on, ladies and gentlemen, draw on! The pen is truly mightier than the sword

    1. Thanks for saying all of this. I’m nota cartooonist either, just a lifelong fan of cartons and strips.

  2. Clay, Hang in there and keep up the good work. People need and rely on your great sense of humor and artistic talent. We’re all pulling for you and can’t wait till you’re back on the board sticking it to those that need it! Be well my man.
