Guest Cartooning

Guest cartoonist week continues in Gil Thorp and Dick Tracy.

Kit Mills ends his four week substitute artist stint at Milford High with this week (October 6 – November 1, 2025). It is presumed that Rachel Merrill will return to Gil Thorp on November 2, 2025. Dave Beaty will continue as the Minit Mysteries guest artist until November 9, 2025 after which, again presumably, Charles Ettinger will return. With the circumstances surrounding Mike Curtis we will probably see Eric Costello remain on the Dick Tracy writing chores. Time will tell if it as “guest writer” or if he will be promoted to the regular position.

Next day update:

Eric Costello has informed Joseph Nebus that “a story of Mike’s is due to start to run in November.”

Guest Stars

With it being canon that they are neighbors and the continuing crossovers of Lola in The Duplex and Eno and Fang in Lola it is getting close to calling Todd Clark and Glenn McCoy guest artists of each others’ comic strips.

FurBabies has a guest layout cartoonist as Nancy Beiman pays tribute to Harvey Kurtzman and MAD #1.

In Working Daze Scott Roberts does a decent imitation of Bill Hoest as Agatha Crumm pays a visit.

Hägar the Horrible by Scott Underwood

In our Future Funnies Department we have Scott Underwood auditioning for Hägar the Horrible in this coming Sunday’s Slylock Fox. While Scott Roberts could be a backup/assistant to The Lockhorns John Reiner, who is still a young (under 70) cartoonist, it would seem likely that a plan is taking shape for when Gary Hallgren retires from Hägar. And since the Hägar writer is Bob Weber, Jr. there is already a connection twixt that strip and Slylock.

But that reminds me…

Happy Belated Birthday To Gary! Born October 28, 1945!
