Goodbye to “Nancy” From Olivia
Skip to commentsA month ago Nancy said goodbye to Olivia, now Olivia is saying goodbye to Nancy.
Last month it was revealed that “Olivia Jaimes” was retiring from the Nancy comic strip.
After nearly a decade of creating the strip, Olivia Jaimes has retired. The new Nancy strips will debut January 1, 2026. Nancy classics (by previous Nancy creator Ernie Bushmiller) will run until that date [emphasis added].
That seems to say that the Bushmiller Nancy reruns will run until Caroline Cash takes over.
The GoComics announcement of the same date was a bit more demur stating:
Until Cash takes over in January 2026, GoComics—and the more than 100 newspapers that syndicate “Nancy”—will continue running archived content, along with a farewell strip from Jaimes [emphasis added], the date of which is yet to be announced.
Pretty clearly saying that Olivia would return one last time to the Nancy comic strip – I assume a Sunday.
Now, in today’s GoComics newsletter we get this:
A Fond Farewell: Goodbye To “Nancy” From Olivia Jaimes
Last month, “Nancy” creator Olivia Jaimes announced she was retiring from the strip, and handing the reins over to Ignatz and Eisner Award-winning cartoonist Caroline Cash.
Before she fully hung up her pen, though, Jaimes asked us to share a few behind-the-scenes final thoughts [emphasis added] on the lives of her characters: Mildred, Mildred’s mom, Lucy, Agnes, Sluggo, Fritzi, and, of course, Nancy. See her hand-sketched notes in the image [below].

Color me confused. Will there be a final Nancy by Olivia distributed to newspapers and GoComics’ Nancy, or is the above the farewell strip?
