Clay Jones Partially Paralyzed by Stroke

Editorial cartoonist Clay Jones suffered a stroke this week and says he’s partially paralyzed. On a Facebook post published today, he also indicated that he’s also having to relearn how to use his voice.

His post:

Dear friends, lovers, and co-conspirators,

Unfortunately, this week I had a stroke and my right side is partially paralyzed. This means the streak is over and I have to relearn how to use my hand and my voice.

Please bear with me until I figure this out. I appreciate everyone’s love and concern. I will see you when I see you.

This post was made with great difficulty using voice messaging. Please do not call or message me.

I love you all,

Clay Jones

The Daily Cartoonist sends Clay our best and look forward to new cartoons soon.

  1. Clay :
Your voice & pen are valuable in these troubled times.
Please take the time to heal and get ready to do what you want to do.
You are admired by the lovers of freedom

  2. I was so saddened to see this. Clay will be greatly missed during his recovery which is hoped to be complete and as quick as possible. He and Mike Peterson’s CSoTD are my go-to’s every morning. Judging from his most excellent work, he appears to be a fighter, so the hope is that he will apply that spirit to his recovery.

  3. Sending support and prayers your way, Clay. Take all the time you need for recovery.

  4. Clay, hearing youre a fighter is inspiring, though I suspect my arm is currently contemplating a very different kind of fight – primarily against gravity and its own. Heres to hoping your voice pen and hand eventually stage a triumphant comeback! In the meantime, I’ll try to resist the urge to call; I imagine your phone is probably more popular than a hot cartoon today. Sending supportive vibes your way, Clay!

  5. Stay strong, do the PT andget well soon. Good luck with your recovery. ☮️

  6. Your silence is/will be deafening.
Wishing you all the best for a quick recovery.

  7. I was taking the day off from news but NOT cartoons. This brought me to tears. You are a real genius and we need you so desperately. Get well soon. We love you

Let us all know if we can help.

  8. All the best on your recovery &/ or adjustment Clay!

  9. Go to Vivistim.com

    This has helped me.
As I told my therapist, my stroke caused me to learn more about the body than I ever wanted to.
Good luck and never give up.

  10. get well soon. take the time you need for rehab. all us readers will wait. best wishes.

  11. Dear Clay,
I am saddened to learn this news. You have been my bright light during this whole Trump shitshow. Your sharp insights into what is going on each day brought a smile to my face while crying on the inside. I will pray for your speedy recovery. Take really good care.
    Sincerely, a BIGLY fan

  12. Best wishes for a complete recovery. Your work has shone the clear, hot light of truth on current events. Surely it will again soon.

  13. Clay: My dad had a similar stroke losing his speech and right side movement. He was able to recover and to write several more books. One was Conquering Disability about recovering from his stroke. Hang in there you will recover. We need your contributions to help us stay sane.

  14. Get well soon Clay! Your amazing toons and dialogue are outstanding and truly a voice of reason in this world which is so chaotic and teetering on the edge like we are at the eve of destruction given the cast of deviant characters who you bravely depict in your work as you point out their hypocricy and lack of a moral compass.
